AboutThis Community is dedicated to the pairing of Captain Jack Harkess and Ianto Jones in the new sci-fi series Torchwood.

So for everyone who hasn't heard of this show- What is torchwood?
Torchwood was originally an idea of writer Russell T Davis (writer of Queer as folk)
He thought of it just before he wrote the new series of Doctor who. The tapes of this series were labelled "Torchwood" so they weren't stolen, a clever idea as Torchwood is an anagram of Doctor Who.
The Torchwood institute was founded by Queen Victoria to defend the British Empire against hostile alien life. There have been four institutes and the series takes place in the last institute. There have been two seasons, both shown on BBC TWO and BBC Three
there is also a lot of confusion about his past. One particular note is that Jack cannot die now and has the present Doctor's hand in a jar, probably to try and discover more about his own regeneration. During the finale of the first series he abandoned Torchwood to run after the Doctor, but returned to find his team stronger. After the second series we found out a lot more about his past and about his brother.
So why this pairing? Well, aside from all the flirty remarks between the two, there is also a feeling of loss with both. The characters have lost people and also have very contact with the outside world (both appear to live IN the institute)
Also. How many kisses of life involve tongue and so much enthusiastic mouth movements/neckstrokage.
And we have canoical romance between the pair! Canon slash! How many fandoms have half naked snogging and accepted flirting by the rest of the team? IT'S CANON. DEAL WITH IT.
