If I don't read your fic straight away, don't take it personally - I will get around to it, I promise, but I don't have much reading time at the moment and I'm way behind. I still look forward to reading your first fic - I remember vividly how nervous I was about posting my first piece, but I found everyone to be really encouraging, I'm sure you will too!

We all read what we can when we can, but there's so much great fanfic around there's a limit to how much anyone can get through. When I joined LJ, there was already 2 years' worth of Torchwood fanfic to read and I have a list a mile long of series I really want to read, but even before real life got into the way, I was only just keeping up with the new, short one-shots and a bunch of WiPs! We're spoilt for choice! When I get the time, I want to do a rec list of some of my favourite one-shots that newer readers might have missed, but alas, there's just no time right now! I never thought I'd write anything, but I think it must be infectious - you catch it from reading! ;)

I've always loved to write but wasn't sure how good it would come out. I started watching Torchwood over a year ago and my adoration of Jack and Ianto inspired me to finally try my hand at fanfic. I've just been lurking and commenting since I joined LJ (and was lurking even before then). The encouragement from my LJ friends and seeing how well first-time writers have done went a long way toward finally getting me off my duff. It's nice to have finally finished something, too! ;)

There are fic rec comms? 0_o I didn't know that =S I don't get around a lot! I'll probably just post on my journal so my friends can see what I like that isn't something they've written themselves!

There is a huge feeling of achievement when you write something, and it's even better when you get comments from people saying they like what you've written - I've had a few fangirl moments when I've had comments from people whose writing I admire!

I've watched Torchwood since the first screening of the first episode on BBC2, but I'm sticking to watching the first 2 series, I'm not interested in anything after that - everything I write has the whole team still alive with a couple of extra members, and ignore CoE. The closest thing to canon I've written is a coda to Journey's End in which Tosh and Owen are dead, but that's not my preference. I prefer happy, fluffy stories as a writer - though I enjoy reading angst, when I write only fluff comes out!

My first viewing of Torchwood was the CoE DVD. I prefer watching the first two series but still watch CoE on occasion. I've no problem with people who stick with the "classic TW", I just like to devour EVERYTHING that's TW. I'm excited about Miracle Day but do wish Ianto, Tosh, and Owen were still alive. (I've heard rumors they might get a mention in the new series.)

Most of my fic bunnies have tended to be set post-CoE (including a fixit), the other ideas are AU. I like most genres but I think my own writing will turn out pretty fluffy. (I'm an old romantic at heart!) The story I'm posting later is set after Exit-Wounds. Speaking of which, I'd better hop to it! ;)

Everyone has their own preferences and there's room enough in the fandom for all, if only people would respect each other's likes and dislikes without insisting only their own opinion is right. I won't be watching Miracle Day as it's moved too far away from anything I would find interesting - plus it's supposed to be darker than CoE, which plunged me into depression. I don't intend to go there again. I don't like political dramas or anything overly grim and dark, so it's just not my cup of tea.

Hope you'll write your CoE fixit at some point - there's always room for more! Doubt I'll write a fixit myself as I tend to ignore CoE completely. Anyway, I'm not good at plotty stuff!

Yes, toddle off and post your fic! The sooner it's up, the sooner people can comment on it =)
