Author’s Note: Written for the Red is our Colour challenge #12. The theme is "Spring" and the words are "truncate," "demonstrable," and "earth." The phrase is “It was a week before (s)he could walk normally again."
The challenge is Spring, which I have taken as rebirth, since we are heading into winter, not spring here.
Ianto sat, with Jack cradled in his arms.
He started to whisper in Jack’s ear.
Come back to us.
Come back to us, to all of us.
We need you.
Come back to me.
I need you.
Gentle hands wiped the blood off Jack’s lips.
He whispered words of love, to a man who could not hear.
Ianto knew he would be unable to say these things if Jack was alive,
If Jack was with him.
If Jack knew how much he ....
Ianto knew that he could not.
Let Jack know how much he meant to him.
How much he needed him.
Jack was needed, not just by him, by the world.
Jack protected the world.
Ianto needed to, had to, allow Jack freedom.
He couldn’t tell him..
He wouldn’t tell him.
He could and would show how he felt, but only with thoughts and deeds .
It was a demonstrable truth.
Ianto was of this earth, this time.
Jack was for all time.
Ianto’s life would be truncated.
Torchwood has seen to that.
He would not live for ever.
Jack would be reborn.
A saviour of the world.
“Jack I love you, because I love you I will always be here, holding you, by your side. Always for you.”
Letting you go.
“Jack it fine I have you. Everyone is okay, the alien has been dealt with and the others are bringing the SUV around.” Ianto soothed.
Jack held onto Ianto, wishing he could tell him how much he meant to him. How he was important to him, how he needed him.
But he was never ending, being reborn, he couldn’t take the pain of letting someone in.
Even though he loved him.
“Hey Jack” yelled Owen, “Put the tea boy down, you don’t know where he’s been.”
The two men walked towards the SUV.
Jack put his arm over Ianto’s shoulder.
“You known the last time I saw an alien that colour was in the Vegas Galaxy. Boy he found out I was good in bed, he’s never gonna complain about the time we had, It was a week before he could walk normally again."
Jack looked at Ianto, If only I could tell you how I feel, not hide my feelings, to tell you that I follow your voice back, but I can’t. A joke, to hide behind.
